Sustainable solution: PGC

To make optimal use of the space in our orchid nursery, we use Plant Growth Cells. We also call these PGCs and you can recognize them by their hexagonal shape, so that they fit together well on a table. An innovative solution that we use during our cultivation of the Kolibri Apply orchids.

Advantages PGC

A PGC is an innovative and sustainable solution in our nursery and has many advantages. Thanks to PGCs, we make optimal use of the space, making it possible to place several orchids on tables. Other benefits of PGC are:

  • Leaves and branches remain better protected
  • 20% savings in energy and fertilizers (a lot more sustainable 😉)
  • Roots do not grow into each other
  • Higher average number of branches per plant

Finally, the PGCs are reusable and are disinfected in a specially designed car wash with UV light.

When do we use PGCs?

Before we place our orchids in a PGC, they are kept in a warm department for 16 to 18 weeks. After those number of weeks, we place each orchid separately in a PGC. This is done with the help of an automatic machine that places each PGC on the tables. Because the machine puts them exactly next to each other, a honey structure is created.
